The final day of Cheltenham’s November Meeting and we’re set for the Greatwood Hurdle, which looks as competitive as ever.
To land the Tote Placepot at Prestbury Park punters will need to pick out a horse to place in both that race at 15:00 and five other contests.
Thankfully, our team have gone through the card to pick out those pointers that might come in handy.
How’s the going?
Light rain throughout Saturday and into Sunday means the ground has been maintained at a very fair Good To Soft all round at Prestbury Park. There’ll be little excuse as far as the going goes at jump racing HQ.
The Big Trend
Taking note of the market in the Shloer Chase (Leg 3 - 14:25) could be key.
Only Masterminded (2009) has been sent off favourite for the Grade 2 event and failed to finish in the places. It’s still a bit early to say who will go off favourite between last year’s winner DEFI DU SEUIL and Arkle heroine Put The Kettle On.
The former looks more likely to shade it with the punters, and if there is confidence behind him, especially with the disappointing form of the Hobbs stable, he’ll be a popular choice to finish in the first two.
Placepot Bankers
Paul Nolan sends
DISCORAMA across to
Cheltenham for the first time since an excellent third in the Ultima at the Festival in March. The form of that race looks like it could work out quite nicely with The Conditional and Vinndication in particular looking likely to move on to bigger things.
Nolan’s Irish raider put up a great performance to go down just a short head to the Kim Muir winner at Galway on seasonal reappearance, giving that one weight, and with that run under his belt, he looks likely to go close in Leg 2 of the Placepot.
Outsiders to Consider
In the opener (13:15) The Big Breakaway will be popular on his chasing debut, but it’s worth considering one who we have already seen over fences. Stuart Edmunds’ WOLF OF WINDLESHAM jumped slickly and quickened clear to dispatch a trio of useful rivals at Fakenham on chasing debut. He’s unexposed over this trip and had hinted he was a stayer in the making a few times last season, so he might just sneak into the first two.
Torpedo Leg
Over the last three years, only one horse in the top three in the betting of the Greatwood Hurdle (Leg 4 - 15:00) has finished in the frame. With that in mind, we’re firing three shots at the race with some bigger priced sorts.
BALLYANDY’s_ second to Sceau Royal at Ffos Las on his seasonal debut looks cracking form after Alan King’s charge landed the Elite Hurdle last week. Even off top-weight, he can feature in the finish off an unchanged mark.
SEBASTAPOL is very lightly raced and continues to perform at a good level whenever he’s seen. He was a dogged winner at Musselburgh in February, and although he’s been put up 6lbs this is just his sixth start over hurdles, so is open to more progress.
Finally, we’re taking a chance the BALLINSKER can go well on handicap debut. He’s 10lb better at the weights for a 4lb beating from Milkwood here, and he put up a couple of solid performances last season to suggest he has a decent future.
