Johnny Ward's Irish Angle: Top tips for Leopardstown on Sunday

The switch of Wonder Laish from Charles Byrnes to his neighbour, William O'Doherty, is one of the talking points of Sunday's Leopardstown card.

One of the races also honours former Dublin Gaelic football great Anton O'Toole, and the card has plenty of quality for one so close to Cheltenham.

I've picked a couple. Be lucky.

3.15 Leopardstown: Royal Illusion at 11-10 with Coral and Ladbrokes

It's hard to know what to make of Erins Benefit at this stage but the bottom line is she has had five goes over hurdles and is rated 117.

Royal Illusion would not have been in love with the ground at Naas last time, yet she still ran really well in a hot maiden. This much better ground will suit, she was rated 94 on the Flat, seems certain to appreciate this trip and is trained by Willie Mullins, so if she can't run to at least 120 here, it would be very disappointing.

3.45 Leopardstown: Smiths Girl at 12-1 with Bet365

This mare finished just over a dozen lengths behind Blackbow in a maiden hurdle a year ago at Navan when very eye-catching.

She has been relatively disappointing but her penultimate run when fourth to Klassy Kay gives her a reasonable chance off 12lb better terms with the winner here. The stable is in great form.
