Dave Nevison's Friday tips: three best bets at Goodwood

This is a very competitive Fillies' Handicap for the grade, and looks set to be run at a good pace, and it's the lightly-raced Brighton Beach who appears as one of the more likely improvers in the field, so could be well enough rated on what is her handicap debut. 

She had to make her own running when landing the odds in an uncompetitive minor event at Thirsk last time out, which possibly was not ideal, but Tom Marquand will be able to ride a race in this, and should hopefully deliver the three-year-old filly with a well-timed run. 

Kissmehoneyhoney might well be a long-term project, and therefore one for extreme-distance handicaps, if she is going to take after her dam, but she has found herself an uncompetitive event here, and can land her first handicap. 

The William Haggas-trained filly made a winning debut in September last year, but then wasn’t seen until reappearing in a Listed event over this course and distance where she endured a terrible passage through the race. She wasn’t up to that grade, though. 

She fared much better in a small-field event at Hamilton last time out and may be ready for this now, especially against largely disappointing rivals. 

Veil Of Clouds is bred to be smart, but has taken a little time to demonstrate that she might have talent. However, she certainly came good in no uncertain terms last time out when scoring by six lengths in impressive style at Lingfield, and there is no way an extra 6lb that she carries here would have stopped her.

Simon and Ed Crisford's filly has shown her form on the all-weather so far, and has to prove she acts on turf, but her dam won two competitive handicaps on turf, and also ran well on her only appearance at Goodwood, so the signs are good.
