Elwateen in line to chase Classic glory for Bin Suroor and Shadwell

Elwateen will be representing connections who certainly know how to win the 1000 Guineas if the once-raced filly lines up in the Classic at Newmarket.
Her trainer Saeed bin Suroor has struck with Cape Verdi (1998), Kazzia (2002) and Mawj just two years ago in the all-blue of Godolphin.
However, Elwateen is owned by the Shadwell Estate operation in the colours of the late Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, whose blue and white silks have been carried to victory by Salsabil (1990), Shadayid (1991), Harayir (1995), Lahan (2000) and Ghanaati (2009).
The last three of those were all ridden by Richard Hills, who is now assistant racing manager for the Shadwell team.
“We hope she makes it, she worked on Tuesday and Saeed seems to be happy. He’s got her programme sorted out,” said Hills.
“At the moment she’s all systems go and it’s fingers crossed.
“She’s beautifully bred (by Dubawi out of the Group One-winning Tawkeel), a gorgeous-looking filly. She won her maiden and we haven’t seen her since.
“She’s bred to win a Guineas, it’s whether she’s good enough.”
